So about as soon as I got back up north, I headed to Portland for Kaeti’s  birthday!  While I was there, I thought I’d give 503 Bike Polo a ring, and join a few games.  They told me to show up at the Adidas North American headquarters, they were there to play a few games for a meet and greet.  While I’m there, they bust out a prototype shoe, that wicked number you see up there.

I like when new companies release new bike products, and shoes are probably my biggest complaint with the industry.  Every single “casual” shoe I’ve tried with the exception of DZR (which are comfortable but fall apart in a couple of months) still feels like wearing a bike shoe, complete with heel walking and crack/popping while I walk around.  These looked like they would have the same problem, so I tried my best to head them off and tell them to recess it a whole lot more.

Other than that though, I think these shoes are baller.  The yellow stripe around the shoe is all reflective, and the mallets in the tongue are a nice touch.  Also, FUCK YES HI-TOPS.  That is all.

3-2-1, Polo!

With those words still echoing in between the monolithic columns, we officially opened our new 30x10 court in the old polaroid factory distribution center on the 18th and 19th of november. Dubbed the ‘performance factory’ by the municipality, several local sports initiatives took their places during the open day.

Celebrating the occasion were groups of children from local primary schools running around the ‘factory’ and riding our sponsored children’s bicycles with bamboo mallets. Even our ad-hoc boarding — made from advertisement signage, rope, and tie-rips — held itself together reasonably well considering the violence of the uncoordinated masses of the children.

It was an effort on everyone’s part, and everything came together in the end. Our diy-mallets made of bamboo from the local gardening shop were done just in time, and the dangerous protruding remnants of scaffolding had been removed from the floor. All that was left for us to do was to watch the children ride around the court, and yelling, “3-2-1, Polo!”.

Where do we play? During the summer our home is the field behind the B93 art collective. This winter we will be playing in the former distribution center of the Polaroid factory.
